Apply to Represent the Nordics on the Rural Youth Europe’s Board – Make an Impact at European Level

Do you want to influence rural youth work at European level and expand your network? Apply to represent the Nordics (Group 3: Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden) on the RYE board. The seat is open for a Finnish representative, a member of 4H organisations in Finland.

What is RYE?

RYE is a network of rural youth organisations across Europe. It strengthens cooperation, organises events, and advocates for rural youth in European policy. Finlands svenska 4H and Suomen 4H-liitto are memberorganisations of RYE.

Why join the board?

  • Make an impact: take part in decisions and develop European cooperation.
  • Build networks: meet organisations across Europe and create long-term connections.
  • Gain experience: valued board-level trust position and international visibility.
  • Get support: the secretariat helps with day-to-day work; communications are being strengthened.

What does board membership mean in practice?

The role includes representation, cooperation building, travelling and clear communication (a key focus in the coming term).

  • Online meeting about once a month (approx. 2 hours, evening).
  • In-person meetings 4/year (Thu–Sun; meetings Fri–Sat).
  • Key events: European Rally and General Assembly (best networking opportunities).
  • Optional (recommended): Autumn Seminar, speaker invitations, e.g. European Youth Conference and Rural Youth Parliament.

Workload averages about 2 hour/week (varies) plus email follow-up. Travel, accommodation, and meals are reimbursed. The term is 2 years.

Who is this role for?

  • You are 18–35 years old.
  • You are interested in European youth work, cooperation, and developing organisational activities.
  • You get things moving and work smoothly also remotely.
  • You enjoy communicating (or want to develop in it).
  • You can commit to the meeting rhythm and the quarterly in-person meetings.

How to apply

The process is run in Finland; send your CV, motivation letter, and a recommendation letter from your local 4H association by 15th May to Bettina C. Lindfors, bettina.lindfors@fs4h.fi. The selected candidate is nominated by 4H organisations to RYE. Final confirmation happens at the RYE General Assembly in August 2026.

Selection emphasises a strong 4H background, interest in international activities, good English skills, and broad organisational experience. Valid 4H membership is required.

Why it’s worth it: a unique view into European cooperation and rural youth advocacy, new skills, and a chance to strengthen the visibility of Finland’s 4H work in Europe.
